ESSENCIALIDADE - ESSENTIALITY

Há muito tempo escrevi, não sei já onde, que Macau é o palco para todos os sonhos e ficções. O importante era saber construí-los. Talvez não tenha sido claro, pois há nisto um quê de indecifrável.

Contudo ontem assisti ao espectáculo comemorativo dos 20 Anos da Escola Portuguesa de Macau e, à medida que se ia desenrolando, o aroma que exalava era o do sonho a cumprir-se, aquele onde se percebe a essência de Macau.

Cinquenta e quatro nacionalidades cabem em quinhentos e muitos alunos naquela Escola, por certo a melhor de Macau e, talvez, de Portugal. 

Na viagem que foi o espectáculo, patenteou-se a quem assistiu, a criatividade, a boa disposição, o talento de que tanto se fala, a amizade que une, a solidariedade que permite o colectivo, a inclusão que iguala, e tantas outras qualidades que se assumem como exemplo para todos.

O que se viu da essência de Macau foi não apenas a multiculturalidade - convivência de culturas - mas, e sobretudo, a interculturalidade (1), questão fundamental para a emergência de um mundo mais vasto e melhor porque mais sabedor e mais tolerante para com o(s) Outro(s).

Cabe aqui falar dos que habitam Macau, que na EPM são, como já se disse, 54 nacionalidades e outros tantos componentes genéticos. 

O espectáculo de três horas levou-nos a recordar o que é indeclinável e óbvio, mas tantas vezes esquecido: é que desde quinhentos que os portugueses se misturaram com outros povos numa épica viagem por África, Brasil, Índia, Malaca, Reino do Sião, China e Japão. 

Foi, enfim, uma lição dada pelos alunos, dos mais pequeninos aos mais velhos, prontos para partir para a Universidade. Todos eles falarão correntemente mais do que uma língua, terão visto muito mais de diverso, terão ganho uma tolerância muito maior para com a diferença, e possuirão um hábito para conjugar o excelente. 

Esta a essencialidade de Macau, a propensão para o mundo e para a excelência.

(1) A interculturalidade é a interacção de uma forma sinérgica entre duas ou mais culturas. Para tal, nenhum dos grupos se deve encontrar acima de qualquer outro que seja, favorecendo assim a integração e a convivência entre pessoas.

A long time ago I wrote, have forgotten where, that Macau is the stage for all dreams and fictions. The important thing was/is to know how to build them. Perhaps it has not been clear for, in this, there's an indecipherable thing.

Yesterday I attended the show commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Portuguese School of Macau and, as it unfolded, the aroma that exhaled was the dream to be fulfilled, the one where the essence of Macau can be perceived.

Fifty-four nationalities fit into five hundred and many students at that School, certainly the best of Macau and, perhaps, of Portugal.

In the journey that the show was, it was patented to those who attended, the creativity, the good disposition, the talent of which so much is spoken, the friendship that unites, the solidarity that allows the collective, the inclusion that matches, and many other qualities which should be learnt by all.

What was seen of the essence of Macao was not only multiculturalism - coexistence of cultures - but, above all, interculturalism(1), a fundamental issue for the emergence of a wider and better world because more knowledgeable and more tolerant of the (Others).

It is important to mention those who live in Macao, who, as has already been said, are nationalities and other genetic components.

The three-hour show led us to recall what is indeclinable and obvious but so often forgotten: that since five hundred years the Portuguese mingled with other people on an epic journey through Africa, Brazil, India, Malacca, Kingdom of Siam , China and Japan.

It was, finally, a lesson given by the students, from the smallest to the oldest, ready to leave for the University. They will speak fluently more than one language, have seen much more of diverse, gained a greater tolerance for difference, and will have a habit to combine the excellent.

This is the essence of Macau, the propensity for the world and for excellence.
